In Memory of David Sherwood Daily
David Sherwood Daily passed away on March 4, 2026, surrounded by the presence and love of his beloved granddaughter and daughter, Allison Paige Daily.
David was what we all hope to find in this world: a genuine, loving, down-to-earth man who lived with quiet purpose and an open heart.
He never asked for much. He simply did what he loved, cared for the people he loved, and gave himself wholeheartedly to the things that mattered. His craftsmanship, his dedication, and his love for his family were woven into everything he created.
David was not only an extraordinary luthier. He was a gifted photographer, painter, craftsman, father, teacher, poet, and mentor. He had a remarkable ability to take something ordinary and give it a piece of himself. Nearly everything he touched carried something special because of the care he put into it.
He found pure joy in nature and in the places where life felt quiet. His favorite destinations were often the ones far from the crowds. He could pull his camper into a beautiful, peaceful place, set down a chair, and simply take in everything that life had to offer.
David inspired many people. He mentored many. He shared his knowledge generously and left an impression on the lives of those fortunate enough to cross his path. He fought difficult battles throughout his life, yet he continued forward with kindness, humor, and a smile.
David believed in being present. He believed in doing what you love, creating something meaningful, and using your voice and your gifts to inspire others.
His legacy will live on not only through his family, but through every person he taught, encouraged, helped, or inspired—and through every instrument he lovingly brought into the world.
David is survived by his daughter, Allison Paige Daily, who will forever carry his memory, his teachings, his stories, and his expertise forward. She will make sure that the work he devoted his life to is never forgotten, but continues to be discovered, appreciated, and celebrated.
If you are fortunate enough to own or come across a Daily guitar, take a moment when you pluck its strings to think of David.
Think of the hands that built it.
Think of the years of knowledge, patience, creativity, and love that went into it.
Think of a man who believed that music and art could bring people together, that craftsmanship could carry a piece of its maker into the future, and that the things we create with love can outlive us.
And think of David—not only as a luthier, but as a father, a grandfather, a mentor, an artist, a photographer, a craftsman, and a man who found peace in the simple beauty of being alive.
Rest peacefully, David.
Rest peacefully, Papa.
Your hands may have stopped building, but everything you created continues to speak.
Your music continues. Your art continues. Your teachings continue. Your love continues.
The world will never forget you.
Andrew York is a world renowned Classical Guitarist who has been playing Daily Guitars for many years now.
Andy started playing my guitars in the early 90’s. In the time that has passed he has recorded for Sony and Telarc and had a Grammy winning CD (Guitar Heroes). He has become one of the leading composers for the classical guitar, and one of its leading performers. He has concertized around the world in great concert halls to sold out audiences. And he did it all on a Daily.
Handmade Guitars
The luthier’s task is to find the zone of synchronicity where everything works together. This is not alchemy. When it’s happening, it’s happening all over the guitar; low action, low string tension, and great sound. There is a sense of intimacy a player can have with this guitar. There is a tactile feel, in both hands, that lets you know that everything is good. It is like a dance with a beautiful responsive partner. This kind of guitar encourages you to play, and has a beautiful voice across its entire dynamic range. Easy to play. Sounds great.
I have been in the guitar building business for thirty years. The thing that has sustained me through all those years is my love for building guitars. There is a high when you are completing a guitar–carving the neck, hammering the frets, putting on the polish, anticipating a new instrument. There is really nothing like it. I have a lot of my own collections—camera equipment, stereo equipment, lps, boots. And I love holding a new piece in my hands. The beauty of these things can be just stunning. And a guitar is whatever any of that is squared.

“I get nonstop compliments about my David Daily guitar in every competition.”
“The Daily is quite simply the best guitar in the world.”
“The Dailys have superior sustain, clarity, brilliance, and volume –
a combination that is difficult to find in one instrument.”
